The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants
The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) was formed in 1904 via a Royal Charter by Queen Elizabeth II of the UK.
One of the oldest standing organizations in the world, the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants is now one of the largest global accountancy organizations.
It has over 154,000 members and 432,000 students enrolled across 170 countries.
Purpose of the ACCA
The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants provides membership and a stringent set of requirements to ensure that its members possess the adequate level of accounting expertise.
“Chartered Certified Accountant” is a term that is legally protected. Anyone using the moniker must be a member of the ACCA and is required to comply with all ACCA regulations.
Such regulations include maintaining a valid accounting certification and carrying appropriate liability insurance.

Headquarters
ACCA’s headquarters is located in London. It has a principal administrative office in Glasgow, UK.
The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants also operates through 83 satellite offices, with over 8,500 approved providers who provide training to students and other individuals looking to become full members of the ACCA.
Full Member / New Applicant Requirements
New applicants are required to register as “student members” and complete the Professional Scheme qualification.
Upon completion, student members are transferred to an “Affiliate Status”.
Going from an “Affiliates Status” to “Full membership” requires you to demonstrate that you have obtained at least of three years of experience (supervised, practice and acceptable to the ACCA) in an accountancy role.
You’ll also be required to reach a set standard of competence.
