Although mortgage rates are on the rise, they still remain historically low in 2017-2018. But despite how low current mortgage loans are, there are ways to find even better rates, and make homeownership that much more affordable.

Comparing rates is an excellent way to obtain the best mortgage rates, but you also want to consider the different types of loans (10-year mortgage, 15-year, 20-year, VA, jumbo loans, etc.). If you’re only planning on being in your home for a few years (i.e., a starter home), it doesn’t make sense to go with a fixed-rate, 30-year mortgage.

Shorter-termed 10-, 15-, 20-year fixed-rate mortgages normally have lower interest rates than the longer 30-year fixed mortgage loan. For example, below is a home loan rate table from Bank of America that shows reduced rates for 20>15>10-year loans.
