In 2008, Pen Air rolled out an intensive, hands-on project to educate high-school students about how a credit union works: running one themselves.
Today, Pen Air employees and student tellers staff three student-run locations, offering the students professional experience and training. Student-tellers develop skills in money management, work ethic, problem-solving, and customer service, just to name a few.
These skills will serve them for the rest of their lives as they go out into the working world. The three student-run credit union locations are:
- Patriot Credit Union at Pace High School (est. 2008)
- Panther Credit Union at Milton High School (est. 2009)
- Wildcat Credit Union at Booker T. Washington High School (est. 2012)
Pen Air Federal Credit Union Review: Communerosity
“Communerosity” may be a made-up word, but it is one great attraction to Pen Air Federal Credit Union — because you know that something good must come from mashing the words “community” and “generosity” together.
Pen Air has made it a tradition to support valuable organizations in the community through cash and in-kind support as well as volunteerism.
One example of this support is Jeans for Generosity. Each year, Pen Air employees nominate local nonprofit organizations that they think deserve their support.
Funds are raised through payroll deductions and Jeans for Generosity days; then, they are matched by Pen Air and divided equally among the nominees.
